there are thieves, and then there are thieves.
I just bought a rifle from Cordier auctions.
They say to make sure to read their special terms.
I did.
They clearly state that shipping on the first long gun will be $50 and list their preferred shipper.
Got a call from the shipper saying he wants $162 to ship, give me your CC number.
Shipped the rifle, it came today undamaged. (3 days FedEx)
I'm thinking of a chargeback,
what would you do,
I want to be fair.

I'm not sure what that is, or how it works? If it's a case of getting your shipping cost back charged to your credit card, you may find it impossible to do since you got what you had shipped, and they told you the price.
And if you did get your funds credited back, you might not be too welcome at that auction again, or maybe get sued for non payment.
I'd probably just take my lumps, and not deal with them again.

yeah, that's the smart thing to do, and just let it burn me up inside.
did you download the little file I posted, $62 to put a gun in a box? and 10% CC convenience fee?
Do they expect you to show up and pay them cash so they'll ship?
It's not so much the money, it's the racket they have.
It's like the scam ads on FaceBook:
!!!Make $400 an hour putting things in boxes!!
Same amount to ship a more expensive rifle with 3 extra barrels and accessories from Rock Island, and they don't use extra static peanuts.
oh well, done with rant,
Aaron

Rebel I can’t disagree on the simple rule of stress but I’m a firm believer that if people don’t stand up and pursue this kind of thing then nothing will ever change. Money or not it’s the principle and I think perhaps the law.

Sorry Aaron, I didn't even see that little file until you mentioned it? But after seeing the charges the little CC fee was the least offensive. The $64 labor fee hit me bigtime! Just how much do they pay their employees to package things, and how long could it take to cost $64?
Is the $15 shipping box pretty heavy duty?

yep, boxes are expensive, and it's a good one.
I save mine.
Work for us, $400/hr to box stuff.
We supply transportation!

Final update (I think) to this fiasco with USPS. After denial of my claim, and denial of two appeals, their site said my claim was approved? At the same time I got a letter stating my 2nd appeal was denied again!
Then I checked the site on Sat. and it said "claim paid"? I figured this was impossible, since it was denied, and I didn't have a check either? Then yesterday a check arrived for almost the whole amount. Of course I expected they wouldn't give me the cost of insurance back, but they gave me the insured amount, plus shipping. But they deducted the $15 oversized package amount.
At this point I'm glad to get what they paid, as I really thought they'd never pay anything. The check had a letter with it, but doesn't explain why they didn't pay the whole amount? It simply states it's payment for a lost package.

I learned a long time ago that half a loaf is better than none.
Thankfully, you're just missing the end piece.

So apparently I have reluctantly joined this club, although my issue is with UPS. The wonderful German Martini barreled action I posted about has disappeared into a black hole. It was sent from Conway, AR on 10/27, arrived in Little Rock on 10/28, and never left there nor can it be found.
I suspect something very fishy, because here we are on 11/4 and OOPS is already processing the claim for the sender. I have never heard of a shipping company acknowledging a package as lost within 9 days before. Typically they delay things for awhile to give the package time to turn up, but nope, straight to the claims process.

I have actually wondered about that. Apparently you can still ship firearms with UPS but you have to set up a special account to do so. Makes me wonder exactly what transpired here.

UPS has decided that regardless of whether a gun is antique, or modern, they will only accept firearms shipments from dealers. So if you have to ship via UPS it's going to require you to also involve a middle man and whatever increased costs are part of his participation.
None of the shippers care about firearms shipments, and I think they all are happy to lose this business. I wish someone with enough clout would step up and say they'll cater to our hobby and provide a much needed safer shipping service!

It is not just FFL dealers who can ship, it is “certain” FFL dealers. Our shop has yet to set up the necessary account to do so, but it appears that UPS only wants to ship from major distributors
I’m fortunate in that the seller is sending a refund check before he is reimbursed. Can’t complain about that, he has true integrity. Oh, and he is a licensed FFL holder as well.

At my age I'm done buying or selling guns that require shipping. I'd rather drive a couple days to a big gun show to buy or sell than screw with these shipping issues. It's just too much frustration, and misery.
