Breach seated cased

I am currently using floral foam in my brass cases  to keep powder from exiting the case when loading into the breach. I under stand this could ring the chamber, what is other shooters using to keep powder in the case? Thanks

Only way I've seen floral foam used is at the mouth of the case. Never heard of it ringing a barrel used that way.

Chamber ringing with wads only occurs when the wad is on the powder, thus confining it to a symmetrical position.   The ring is caused by the deceleration of the column of gases against the base of the bullet.  Or by the bullet being slowed by an obstruction and the gases decelerating against the bullet.

The pressure of a column of gas under acceleration (or deceleration, which is essentially the same thing) has an exponential distribution.  The earth's atmosphere is an example in point.

Do you cut them with the case mouth at the bench or punch them out at home?

I use the darker green  floral foam  and I've not had a problem .I just slice it in 1/8 " or so sheets and let the case cut it after i load it.
I only do this in a couple of small  cases  where I have spilled powder other than that I prefer not to add the extra step

I punch out a bunch of them at home ahead of time with a home made wad punch that I turned on the lathe

I have used many thousands of wads of floral form without a problem. I cut the blocks of form into sheets about 1/8" thick and push the foam over the primed and loaded case and the case mouth will cut the wad for a perfect fit.

Ok thanks guys I am kinda new to breach seating, sometimes the floral foam falls all the way into the case before I get to the range, so I hope the floral foam if it falls on the powder won’t change anything.

If it falls into the powder it could indeed cause a ringed chamber. Best to put the cases in case mouth down during travel so the foam wont drop down against the powder and chance ringing the chamber!

Ok will try that, I was afraid the foam
Would not hold and I would end up with a bunch of cases empty and powder all over the bottom of my cartridge box.

You could try driving around the pot holes instead of through them. Cheesy

Stabilizing the cases might actually help. I generally put foam or paper towels between the of the cases and top of the box to keep them from bouncing around in the cartridge boxes I use for transport.

Holding the powder down can aggravate the potential for ringing.
The solution is to make up a seater that sets the wad .050" to .100" off the powder.
This comes from experiments Charlie Dell did on ringing chambers. He got so good at it he could ring a chamber by altering the position of the rifle. His experiments showed leaving the wad off the powder helped lessen the chance for ringing.

I just powder charged the case, and then pushed the crinkle foam onto the case mouth.  It seemed to stay there, but I always deprimed the case, reprimed it, and set the wad strip on top of the case.  Then I breech seated the bullet and put the case in the barrel.  One case, like the oldtimers did.

When I drove up to get my rifle from Dean, I found out he was using the 222 Rimmed Magnum case to form the short case he and I designed.  It was some work to make them, but the RWS brass was so high quality you only needed to make the number of cases for a match.  Dean made me an even hundred.  It gave me the option to just use one case, or pre-load sixty or so.

Single case-ing at a match, I used a Neil Jones measure.  I have owned several over the years, but none approached the uniformity of the Jones CPS.  It is so repeatable.

I only shoot offhand so I assume that shooting off the bench once everything is set up you don’t move the rifle?  I just tip the rifle up when loading to prevent the powder from existing the case. This is a question.
