Ballard #2 rebored and rerifled by Stevens to 25-20SS. Mint bore, neat rear barrel mounted sight. (Remington Rough & Ready). Globe front. Sharps but plate cut down, 12" pull. No cast vs. forged discussion please. Thanks moodyholler

moody, I would be interested in a picture of the information on the rework by Stevens, if it’s possible.
Neat rifle!

Your "Rough and Ready" sight appears to have been "improved" with an buckhorn with an elevator.  I'd like to see other views of it.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Looks like the rough and ready sight is a later addition for someone wanting to shoot farther distance. The 12" LOP is probably cut down for a young person to fit their short arms better.

For those unwashed individuals, Buckhorn is second sight in front of Rough and Ready. moodyholler

The original Rough and Ready actually had a simple nonadjustable "buckhorn" at its muzzle end.  The R&R on the subject Ballard appears to have had that one cut off/replaced.

They looked looked like a simple notch on the ones I've seen, not a "buckhorn". Just for clarification. moodyholler

Yes, moodyjoller, it is just a simple notch.  My apologies for not taking the effort to make that clear.

From where I'm sitting, it looks to be considerably more than a 12" length of pull?

I am guessing it might have been a #3, the smallest caliber in a #2 was .32R/CF I believe, hard to rebore that to a .25. I'm curious about what the extractor and firing pin look like currently.
Neat Ballard.
