My first .......

Already having 9 Winchester 1885s plus 2 actions, I got my first coil spring model, a Winder musket. a Model 87 sporting a 4x Mossberg scope.  It also came with a nice Lyman 2A marked 'sb'.

Ballards may be weaker,

Got to fondle Jack's new Winder, and it's every bit as nice as his picture shows! Great find Jack!

I took the Winder to the range today and in slightly twitchy winds without anything more than throwing it o the front bag at a comfortable spot, I managed these 3 groups at 50 yds with the 4x scope.  Now to try a variety of ammo to see what else it likes.  This is some weight sorted Ely Club Extra and an orphaned lot of older Tenex.

bpjack, I have been playing around with some ammo, I tried some SK pistol special match. My rifle is a martini 12/15 that has been re-barreled with I think a Shaw barrel. Standard chamber. I never considered it anything other than a hunting rifle. With the SK and a 6x lyman jts, I was able to shoot a 5 shot group at 100 of about an inch and a half and about 1 3/4 at 150. I was shooting at a printed out silhouette that had a grid on it so I didn't have a solid aiming point.  I feel an aiming point would tighten things up a bit.

This is a Second Model 1885 High Wall, in .22 Long Rifle.  It's not a Model 87.  87s have the high walls ground down to low wall profile, most of them are .22 Shorts.

This is also a Second Model.  You guys are darn lucky.  Most of the Winders I see are the ground-down 3rd Models.
