My 414 has a hard rubber buttplate similar to what Stevens used on most shotguns, 311 for example.
404’s used the elk head plate same as the 044 1/2 English model I believe.
Finding a 44 1/2 .22 LR kicking ejector could be difficult, I wonder if a ejector from a 44 could be used with a bushing in the .290 hole for the lever pin, reduced down to.200”?

Yikes, I was hoping I could get away with a standard CPA breech block and ejector considering that its basically a 44 1/2 action.  Have I oversimplified the situation?

A breech block and extractor from CPA will work fine with your 404, but to be correct it should have the ejector.

I figured that would have to be something I needed to compromise on.  Thanks

FWIW I had a 414 that had a steel butt plate. The gun was in VG condition so I assume it was stock.

The butt stock that came with my 404 action has a thick steel butt plate.  I assume it's original and it looks factory.  However, most all the pictues I have seen of 404s show hard rubber butt plates.

I’ve seen 414’s with both the steel plate and the hard rubber plate.
I’d guess that the hard rubber buttplate is more common.
