Do you have a PP mold that matches the throat?  I bought a Shiloh #1 Sporter in 45-70  last year that a machinist/tool and die maker had ordered chambered for a PP chamber.  He designed, and cut, a bullet mold to match that throat.

I have purchased PP bullet molds over the years to try in standard throats.  With some load fussing, they will shoot as well, perhaps a bit better than naked bullets.

This PP set up will hold better than I can shoot it.

The mold is a BACO Jim453546 E DDPP and the chamber has a 12* front end which starts at the end of the brass, tapers at a 12* angle to the bottom of the lands then at a 1.5* angle to the top of the lands.  There is no 45* angle step in this chamber.  This is a good fit with the PP mold...not a perfect fit but very good.  I am attaching a picture of a brass case separation I had a few weeks ago shooting some old loads.  The front end of the brass was puled into the rifling which formed to the chamber perfectly. The picture must be over 500KB?? Can't post.

Do you wipe between shots? Do you bore mop the chamber dry?

With black powder loads in my 40-65 with a chamber like this one in my 45-70 I use bore pigs with a dry patch on the front of the delron rod used to push the bore pigs through the barrel.  I use a dry bore mop to swab the chamber once and then load.  I have been trying to figure out how use duplex loads in the 45-70 with paper patched bullets without wiping but have come to the conclusion that this is not a good idea.  At the gong match this past weekend I found that I had enough time to wipe with my bore pig method even though many of the competitors were using smokeless powder which does not require any fouling control.

No but the brass I ejected seemed short and when I tried to wipe the bore...it was a grease groove black powder load...the patch stopped at the front of the chamber.  It finally dawned on me that I had a case separation.
