I had excellent results with 7.4 gr 4227, 93 gr Barnett bullet, 40/1, BS, 12 twist - consistently well under .5" @100 yds.  All 4227 is not the same.  Use Hodgdon made in Australia if you can find it.

you'd win every match entered with "consistently" well under .5 at 100 yards.

just sayin.... Smiley

I DID!!

Douglas 10 twist, Federal 205M primer, 7.3 grains of 2400 shooting either a 105 grain RCBS with the gas check cut off or an NOE 117 grain, both cast at 30 to 1. Under an inch at 100 but I believe that more is there.

Added: Troed ss new load - 10.4 grains of RX7 with a 115  gr breach seated. Shoots very well

CBashooter,

The Saeco number is #62257, a gas check bullet.

well I am impressed.  Back 20 years ago when I was doing a lot of shooting in the CBA.I shot around Bev and Tommy and I did not see those guys shooting consistent  sub half moa groups. And I consider Bev Pinney and Tommy Mason a couple of the top shooters. In fact Tommy's ten shot .400 group at a 100 stands and I was there when he shot it and that was probably 20 years ago.

I'm using 8.5 grains of 4227 behind a lead (gas check) 70 grain bullet.  It's doing ok for the old bore and slow rifling (Low Wall).

Had a Stevens 44 so chambered for quite a few years.  It was fond of the Ideal 85 grain FN and 18 gr of fffg.  It would run 1-1.5" for five shot at 100 yards easy with an aperture sight.

Question for bnice, I started with AA 9 and shot great groups on day 1. I have never been able to duplicate those results. Is this a thing with 9?

I have three Low Wall 25-20SS one with an as new bbl, and another with what I would say was  a 9/10 bbl, both loaded with  87g projectiles and using Aussie AR2205 (Hodgen in US) loads in mid 7g,  was  just using original open sights and  getting good groups, have just mounted a Shaver Mid Range rear sight,  and one  of his tunnel front sights  and will try that out on Tuesday, expect better results, then need to work out black loads. All a  lot of fun !!

Bill, try chronographing and see what your getting. Is it the same lot of #9 that you started with. Old #9 metered better then newer and seemed to be not as hot.

Same can of powder. Initial work shot under an inch at right around 1400. Following week, same load would not shoot under 2 inches. Moved the charge up and down with no good results. It is better with either 2400 or RX7

Fitted Lee Shaver's sights  and loaded up some nitro loads 8.5g AR 2205(Aussie Thales made powder Hodgen in US) with 87g moly coated projectiles clover leafing at 50yds, ran out of time will go to  100yds next Tuesday, and see how  I go.The rifle is an original  Low Wall with a good  condition bbl.  Next is to  go black and see what results I get with finger seated projectiles just touching rifling.
