25 20ss CPA with a 100gr breach seated bullet. I started at 7.5gr of 4227 and they are doing 3" @ 100 yards of a rest. That sucks. Where should I be starting with this combo? I'm thinking more powder....

Breech seated with heavy bullets - probably not too many.

I shoot a Barnett pointed at about 115g with 4227 and h110 in a 25-20 single shot breech seated.
Its a 1-10 Douglas on a Stevens. I'll check the charges by weight as all I have is measure numbers settings my box for reference. I had to get to about 1300 iirc for groups to get under moa.

If I hear another  millenial use the term "node" or "optimal " at the range I'll scream!!!

What is your twist rate?  The traditional twist rate (as used by Stevens and others) is 1/14 which does not stabilize bullets heavier than 86 gr.
Many new barrels apparently use a 1/10 twist rate which should stabilize 100 gr bullets.

CPA typically uses 1-10 for their 25 calibers .the OP mentioned it was a CPA so I'm assuming it's like my barrel.

Well, I do have an old Stevens model 44 in 25-20SS.  I’m just punching paper at 50 and 100 yards, the rifle has a pitted bore, a Lyman tang sight, a beech front sight and a blind 74 year old shooter but it still shoots very well with 4 grains of unique and a 86 grain cast bullet.  Very mild and for me an accurate load. Just adding my two cents.

Just another homesick Texan that shouldn't of left in the first place!

I had excellent results with 7.4 gr 4227, 93 gr Barnett bullet, 40/1, BS, 12 twist - consistently well under .5" @100 yds.  All 4227 is not the same.  Use Hodgdon made in Australia if you can find it.

Searching for answer also with the 25-20 SS. A 1-10 lined barrel on a #2 Ballard Action. Shooting a Saeco 100 gr bullet cast 16-1. 7.8 grains of H4227 shot very well about an inch group at 100 yards. Decided to throat the barrel to bring the bullet out a bit deeper into the barrel. Lost my accuracy and starting over.

you'd win every match entered with "consistently" well under .5 at 100 yards.

just sayin.... Smiley
