	Has anyone applied a bit of 600 alum. oxide grit to outside of the paper wrap and fired the slug. I have a new .45 cal. GM barrel that could use a bit of bore polish. Thinking 1 or 2 rounds might slick throat area without making things worse? Have done the lead lap in the past on others, just don't want to jump into that process now kw

	Coool. The hones for shotgun chambers are 800 or FINER. FWIW

	Paper patch the bullets with some 1000 grit wet or dry paper.

	I think any kind of "sand paper," even crocus cloth, would be too abrasive. Mamy years ago Bill Ballard in Billings told me an excellent way to polish a barrel was to use tracing paper; the kind used in drafting. I never tried it though. George

	Many papers are somewhat abrasive, and may contain clay of some sort of provide opacity. It's probably a good bet that any given paper will have some sort of grit in it. CHRIS

	Verl Smith of Lead Bullet Technology sells a fire lapping kit that can be used with lead bullets or jacketed bullets. It comes with detailed instructions and I have had very good success using it on a 40-60 Maynard and 45-70 barrels that were rough and leading. After the fire lapping the leading disappeared and the rifles shoot quite well. I also used it on a new Green Mountain barrel in 45-90, the first 10 bullets down the barrel were treated with the fire lapping compound and there was a visual improvement of the finish of the bore when using my bore scope.

	Lead Bullet Technology does sound the way to ultimately go. I am going shoot 5 wrapped bullets first that I wiped with Flitz and have a look with the camera, then go from there. This new Grn. Mtn. barrel has surprised me with the tooling marks and the fact that groove is .459. The GG loads lead like crazy, so this one my be PP only in the end. thanks kw

	As I was taught, patching paper should be made from what is usually called "acid-free paper". At its most expensive it's made from cotton rag or other pulp comprised mostly of cellulose. But more commonly and cheaply available are versions made from wood pulp but with almost all it's acidic lignin and other contaminants chemically removed, and often with an added alkaline buffer to further prevent acid erosion of the paper. 	I would suspect a tight patch with J&B short stroaked in the throat should do the trick.

	One of the members of the cast bullets forum suggested that after lubing some cast bullets is to roll them in JB bore compound. And shooting them to lap a barrel. Suggested that one should load them up using a mild load. And cleaning between shots to eliminate any leading. Sadly he is not with us anymore. Frank
