	I am sure this topic has probably been brought up before, but does anyone have any experience in resizing 30-30 brass to 32-40? Any suggestions would be helpful. Also, how do the case conversions function in a lever gun? (Marlin 1893 in 32-40)

	I use Winchester 32SPL brass and it works very well. All you have to do is resize the case in the 32-40 die and its ready to go. Simple.

	I've been using 32-40 made from 30-30 in my 1894 Winchester. Works and feeds very well. It is a little short (maybe 0.10") compared to 32-40 brass but doesn't seem to be a problem. I have been using the jacketed 170 grain .321 bullets. By using the shorter brass, you can crimp the case mouth into the channular on the bullets; something than cannot be done with the "real" 32-40 brass. If I remember right, I trimmed them to the same length as the 32 Special. Haven't tried it with cast bullets. George

	I first run 30-30 in the 32-40 seating die then the fl die.the seater helps get it "pre" formed a bit.Short brass works fine

	If I hear another millenial use the term "node" or "optimal " at the range I'll scream!!!

	25+ years ago when I started shooting 32-40, I could get all the (short, Winchester) cases in 38-55 I wanted. I just sized them (usually a partial pass, then a full one) with my RCBS FL sizing die from a standard 32-40 die set. The only time I had problems or messed up a case was when I tried to go too fast and do it all in one pass. The John Wayne ammo came out and I got a supply that lasted until Winchester made a run of standard 32-40 brass. I got enough when it was available that I no longer need to worry about it. Froggie PS I lubed the cases with a tiny amount of the old Imperial Sizing Die Wax.

	I did almost 300 of these from 30-30's. Light grease lube in full length sizing after annealing. No problems.

	I made a bunch from .30-30 years ago, but as stated above it was all too short. It worked fine, as I just seated the bullets out further for my 1893 Marlin in .32-40. I later got a bunch of .32 Win. Spl. brass and ran it through my .32-40 dies. It came out perfect, and was as easy to size down as just resizing original .32-40 brass. One pass through, and no other work needed. I've still got all the .32 Win. Spl. resized to .32-40 I did probably close to 30 years ago, and never lost a case. I shoot it in my .32-40 Ballard rifles now.

	Forming from 30-30 goes without a hitch. If you want or need the long case, I have formed a few thousand from Starline 38-55 with pretty much the same method as Cat Whisperer. If you use an induction annealer you can get every case annealed the same. Do about 1/3 of the case. Use a very light film of liquid lanolin for lube (spray on a 50-50 solution in isopropyl alcohol). It must be a very light film or you will get a grease wrinkle. Then expand the mouth just enough to remove any little dents, etc. You can form in a single step. My RCBS die will do it but my Redding won't. I don't know why. I would get about 1-2% failures due to body wrinkles. The plus side is that the case length ends up around 1.13"

	the cases made from thutty thutty work fine, though short. Ones made from .32 spl. are a little easier to make and actually manage to lengthen, thus making them about the same as all my 'real' .32-40.

	For some reason I particularly like 30-30 Federal brass, people shoot their lever-action rifles at my local club and leave it laying all over the ground. I just can't resist free brass and it makes fine, albeit a tiny bit short, 32-40's.

	Probably nothing wrong with using 30-30 brass other than some possible throat erosion now taking place a little further back. If it doesn't get into the area of the freebore and that length can vary much to actually possibly having none at all. And if you keep a handle on the carbon build up I would imagine that it should just fine to use.

	I've used Hornady spray case lube ever since they first brought it out. It's always worked well for 95% of my case sizing, and it leaves such a thin film I never get dimples or dents. The only time I need something else is when I have to do major reforming, and then I grab the old tin of Imperial sizing lube.
