Chinquapin SV Results 24&25 June

Greetings!  We had a fantastic two days at the Brushy Mtn Club, and if you missed it, you really missed something special.  The benches stayed pretty full on Friday with a total of 12 people shooting, but as some folks came and went, everyone got to have a bench as needed.  Seven of us shot again on Saturday, and like the day before, the weather was as close to perfect as any of us can remember experiencing at BMC.  As usual, 22 Bench Rest was the most popular event (number-wise at least) but we added 100 yd Offhand and Bench for Center Fire and this idea was well received… we will definitely keep them.
If you look at the results below, you will see that there was a momentous event.  Ray Hoagland, who came up a day early (as usual) to help set up the range, was able to get all the stars to align properly and shoot a perfect 250-10C in the 200 yd Bench match.  We all join in congratulating Ray for this great accomplishment.
Offhand was pretty much neglected in favor of Bench, but that seems to be a trend these days.  James Parker showed up with a beautiful Ballard, a Rigby action with CC Johnson barrel and gorgeous wood.  He generously allowed three of us (including myself) to take turns competing with it Friday.  Jim Rowe was off to a good start on Friday morning until he broke his firing pin, and since his faithful companion Freud didn’t remind him to bring a spare, he had to bow out early.  Better luck in September, Jim!  Robert Hicks brought along his sister Ellen and James Parker insisted she try out his Ballard, which she did to good effect.  I think she will be back again soon!

Regards to all,
Charlie Shaeff, Schuetzenmeister

Thank you and Blessings to Charlie "Froggie" Scheff for another outstanding Chinquapin match. Without our esteemed host and Schuetzenmeister, our sport would pass away along with other club matches in FL & NC.
Froggie .......... "YOU are the man!"  You do it all so well.

The road from Ohio to Central VA is still pretty well paved and clear.  Put the last weekend of September on your calendar and plan to be here once again.  We don't expect to see another Derecho storm that weekend!  Cheesy
BTW, I finally dragged out my Dell-built Peregrine bench gun and shot up the last of my 6-8 yr old cases.  I'll be starting fresh in September.  Smiley

I’ve been told that derecho ( straight line wind ) was in   2012, I will never forget it, I thought the windows were going to blow-out of the clubhouse.  Ledball

Oddly enough, that clubhouse, out in “the Boonies” never had a problem.  IIRC, the power never even blinked.  OTOH, my part of Lynchburg lost power in a disastrous manner.  My parents were without electricity for nearly two weeks.  That was one strange storm, and we have never had anything like it since.  It should be safe for you to come back now.  Wink

Froggie,

"The last weekend of September . . ."

Would that be the weekend of September 23 (last full weekend)?

Or the weekend of September 30?

I would like to make the effort to attend this match.  I now live near Fincastle, in Botetourt County, VA.  Not too far, and I think those roads are all paved also.

Curly.......... noting that Froggie has not yet chimed in, I think I can say accurately that the fall Chinquapin match is scheduled for Friday & Saturday - September 23 & 24. Looking forward to having you aboard.
Cheers!

Ray, thanks for that info.  I now live about 1-1/2 hours from that range.  I hope to be there.
