We are a dying breed. Alot of shoots have trouble to get very many shooters so if you want to attach a kitchen sink to your rifle and shoot off of an ironing board then it will be OK with me. In the olden days the rifle men tried just about everything to improve their scores. Some rifles are pretty, Others are just plain ugly. Does it really matter to the sport???
Attracting shooters no matter what their rifle are (as long as the rules are met) is what we need to do. NOT A BUNCH OF BS INFIGHTING.

Well said. I like the look of my traditional rifles, even though they do wear "modern" Lyman and Unertl scopes. To each his own, and I have no problem competing against a benchrest stocked rifle with a 36X Weaver scope.

Just my $.02. Not even sure what that's worth now.

There are "Traditional Class" matches requiring the older style stocks and narrow fore-ends. I have two fore-ends for my Silhouette rifle to be able to shoot these classes when I choose. This is the simplest answer. I enjoy the traditional, but to compete in today's environment I feel the need for "benchrest" fore-ends and buttstocks.

We're a group who needs to exploit our game. When at the range during practice, I often attract attention by breech-seating. Anyone stopping to ask questions is given an opportunity to shoot. I then casually add this is also good practice for prairie dogs.

My initial introduction was reading Jack O'Connor in Sports Afield writing about shooting ground hogs with single shot rifles. Finally, I am now able to afford a Stevens 44 1/2 and compete.

Jerry actually more than just a few cents worth. Your own personal accomplishments shooting a Pope stocked traditional CPA rifle will probably not ever be matched again. For those who might know it also chambered for 25 WCF.
One of the biggest highlights that I actually watched taking place was when you shot a 200 yard 250 while shooting in one of our Iron Sight matches. Few have been able to actually do the same but you are also the only one that know of who has done it with a 25 caliber breech seating Traditional Pope style rifle and in a ASSRA sanctioned match.

Actually what I'm trying to figure out is a non-marring system to temporarily convert a traditionally shaped butt stock to benchrest configuration, so as not to wreck the lines of the rifle when not in use on the bench. Alternatively, I plan to replace a couple offhand stocks with ones more suitable for bench work, while retaining the original stocks for posterity. After all, it's just a couple minute's work with a proper fitting screwdriver and the original stock is saved from the slings and arrows of shooting use.

As so many of us are balancing on the edge of "aging out" of offhand and position shooting, The Bench takes on a new allure. I say whatever one needs to do to stay in the game is ok.

Gnoahhh please just do whatever it is that you might need to do to keep you shooting and enjoying it. It is by far a hell of allot more important than a stock that can help you out. And even more importantly just ignore anything and everything that someone else might think about it and just do it.
