Very Nice!  Do you know who did the case hardening?

I wish I did.  But the guy I bought it from had owned it for 17 years and it had been done before he bought it.  I just bought another '85 made in 1892, and it's a "rough potato" in .25RF.  Don't know what I'm going to do with it.  I'm not about to spend $2500 to $3000 having another "safe queen" built.  I want a nice"shooter".

I'm thinking that there aren't too many "fat cats" on this forum, and wondering how many of you earn or earned $150,000 a year.  I've been looking around for somebody who can do some restoration work on my '85 Winchester and I'm seeing numbers like $90 an hour for labor.  Now if a guy is in some high rent facility I can understand maybe $20 to cover the rent.  And if he chooses to pay that kind of rent, God bless him, but I'm not God.  Where's my guy whose been around since Moses, has been doing this work forever, and works out of his own modest building.  I'm not looking for a "safe queen", but I do want the work done right so I have a decent shooter and an accurate rifle when all is said and done.
A guy like Turnbull does gorgeous work, but I would be afraid to take one of his end products out to shoot or even take it out of the safe for fear or getting a scratch or a ding in it.

That's ridiculous and you know it.  Why would you make a comment like that~?  On the other hand, it's probably no more ridiculous than $95 an hour.
I'm forgetting that this is big business now and the employees have to be paid 25% of that hourly charge.
