Pics of a Borchardt Zischang in 32-40,built by Argus Barker. He built everything, action, barrel, etc. Only the two wood screws holding on the hook were bought. The checkering done by A friend of his. In order to not screw up the checkering I build A palm rest plate out of Zericote with brass .Easily removed for offhand with out the palm rest.

I think the correct spelling of the wood is "ziricote".  Lovely gun in any case.

Beautifil rifle! And you are correct about the spelling of Ziricote, it's beautful stuff though having built more than a few guitars with it it can be troublesome to work with.Crazy expensive these days too!

If we are going to be PICKY and play teacher, It's scientific name is Cordia dodecandra, or by it's common name Ziricote, Ciricote, or Siricote. It would appear one could use the phonetic spelling of their choice. Perhaps even Zericote with a capitol Z.   Krag with a K.

If we are just going to talk about Ziricote...I have a 4'x4'x 3' high stack of the stuff. Have had gunstocks, custom bows, knife handles made with it. This Zischange having a Ziricote palm rest to match the plate.Pete

Compulsively in for a penny, in for a pound.  "Zischang" has no "e" on the end.

It is in fact, one fine rifle. I don't think there was a finer craftsman than Zischang in is time. To be able to replicate his work is  commendable. Ron Long was another capable of all aspects.

Bill was ragging on the poor spelling not his rifle.  I'm with Bill a hundred percent.

This rifle looks even better leaning against a bookcase here.  It fits perfectly, hangs very steady on target, and is just gorgeous.

enjoy, gentlemen...

Joe I was actually wondering.the same thing.
Nothing against Rich personally and he appears to purchasing a nice collection of Schuetzen Rifles recently and God Bless Him.
But hopefully they are not just now sitting in a Safe and not being used for their intended purposes.

I used to go to Quigley every year.  Missed the last three because of covid.

Occasionally I stopped at Argus' shop going or coming back.  He let me bunk in his shop.  Might have been twenty years ago.  IIRC, this rifle was just finished.  Argus' work is as good as any I have ever seen.

Rich

By the bye; I shoot my firearms.  I own one handgun I haven't shot, an Elmer Keith commemorative.  Four single shot rifles still unfired by me, all purchased this year.  I plan to shoot them all before Quigley, but the 1/2" of snow we got last night and my back have put me behind schedule.

I have shot about half of the rifles I bought this year.  I just went out to the country and shot at the tin can litter the hillbillies leave behind.

For those of you who have never had the pleasure of falling and tweaking your back; it is indescribable.  I was in the VA Med Ctr having my appendix out.  The last day there the day shift maintenance guys washed, then waxed the floor.  I get up to visit the men's room, one step and I am on my tailbone screaming.  Four months later, very little improvement.

With a little luck, I will be shooting the benchrest part of the Nationals at Raton.  But, I have to drive 1100 miles to get there.  I will take prayers from any and all denominations.

Just a note for people who may not have seen the shooting program, there will be benchrest matches for record every day, and two bench RF matches on Monday - the usual record match, and a side match during the offhand.

I'm non-denominational but I'll put in a good word for you.

I have major back issues, I get injections every two months. I find that when I have really bad spells that I tend to buy more guns.

Sitting in my recliner with an ice pack fondling one of the collection does ease the pain.  About an hour of that, and I have to get up, and switch the ice pack and rifle.

Right I am jonesing on Ballards.

I hit bottom...

The doctor at my physical therapy center has done acupuncture the last two Mondays.  I think it is working; between that and the other stuff and the Chiropractor I can walk 1/2 mile and ride the exercise bike a mile most weekdays.

thanks for the kind words,

Rich

Yes, I do plan to shoot them all.  My back is slowly getting back to proper spinal alignment.
