50/50 white vinegar and water with a few drops of dish soap.  Cheap and effective.

Or tumble in stainless pins and water with about a tablespoon of citric acid per gallon of water and a couple drops of dish soap.
A little more expensive for the stainless pins, but more effective.

I have been using Lyman & Hornaday are they ok? I thought vinegar was detrimental to brass. 20 minutes in an ultrasonic is quick & easy.

Roll Eyes Dilute solutions of vinegar for reasonable amounts of time have no deleterious effects on brass.  Soaking in concentrated acetic acid for long periods of time is another story.  Any acid is “bad” for brass.  However, just about every commercial brass cleaner is acidic.

Lyman’s cleaner has citric acid as the active ingredient.

Ammonia, on the other hand is very bad for brass.

I have been using ceramic media to clean my brass for a long time. I am using the stuff sold by Arizona Sharpshooters. The big issue I have had turns out to have been with the soap I was using. Not sure if I was using too much or what. It got the bulk of the crud out of the cases (BP) but they never came out as shiny as I wanted.  Reciently I tried a good squirt of Simple Green and some Lemi Shine and I got some of the prettiest cases you would want to see.
Depending on what cases you are cleaning you might also want to look at using some 3mm ceramic balls. They will not get stuck in cases but also will not clean the corners of your primer pockets.
The balls you can get from Amazon.

The recipe calls for 1 teaspoon per batch.  I use enough water to fill just below the surface of the media, and the cases come out looking brand new.

I use two tumblers. One with pins for small cases, the other with ceramic for large cases.  A squirt of dish soap and a squirt of lemon concentrate. Water lever about an inch over the top of the cases. Pins tumble one hour. Ceramic two hours.

Clean cases are nice.  Smiley

Greg Vest, Shooter 2, ph# (989) 330-5179. Been using it for years, works great for black powder cases with ceramic media.

Anyone using both ceramic and the SS pins together in same the tumbler?

I am currently using ceramic only and tumbling for about 2 hours (40-65 and 45-70 cases). I might be getting more case-mouth peening than I'd like to have. If I used the two together would I cut down on my tumbling time?

I don’t need that much time with pins by themselves. But just with smokeless cases.
