18 bore, two groove rifle that needs a small amount of restoration. This should be a fun one.

Neat looking old Lancaster! That is an unusual shaped bore shown in the muzzle photo. Is that shape just in the crown or does it carry down the bore? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bullet and mold shaped like that either!

The bullets have two small wings which fit into the two grooves shown at the muzzle. The grooves twist over the length of the barrel giving spin to the bullet.

Thanks for the info Steve. The first time I’ve seen bubble rifling! — is there a name for it? A most excellent rifle!

They are just called two groove rifle as far as I know.

I have another two groove rifle by William Moore and it shoots belted round balls very well.

Neat! Is it loaded with a patch?

yes it is indeed loaded with a patch. This from the books:

1849 2ft 8in barrels 'thin patch' sold to J. Drummond.
