Ron Long passed quietly early this morning. A great friend, shooting partner and the greatest rifle builder I’ll ever know.  A true artist and great man.

Ron was truly a master gunsmith. His metal work, stock work plus artistry were equaled by few.
For over 20 years now, I my .32-40 Ballard No.6 offhand rifle has had a Ron Long barrel that is just as accurate as new.
To our single shot world and everyone else who knew him, he will be missed.
Rest in peace Ron.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

I didn’t know Mr. Long personally, but almost felt like I knew him for the past 20 years by his reputation in our single shot circle. I’ve seen a number of his excellent work and his time at Ballard Rifle Company in Cody with their beautiful Ballards, which I love too. It’s hard to spare any of our outstanding single shot gunsmiths, he will be missed.

Met him in the 1980's while in Denver for Altitude testing with Ford and he gave me a tour of his shop and sage advice. A true gentleman who loved his vocation and shared his knowledge.

Sorry to hear this 😢 I am lucky enough to have a rifle with one of his barrels and the mold for it that he made.

Ron was a meticulous craftsman.  Like so many of the old timers, he not only knew how to turn out flawless work; he took the time every time, to do it.

I own a couple of his rifles, treasures of the blued steel and fine walnut rifle craft.

Fair skies and a following wind...

I never knew Ron Long. But I am fortunate to have a rifle that he built. He was a craftsman.
