Stevens 161 scope question

I bought a 44-1/2 with a Stevens 161 scope last week.  I am curious what the "slider" does.  It is retained by a screw that I don't intend to fool with but does that movable element adjust focus or parallax?  The scope works perfectly for me as it is, but one should know how any adjustments work.  BTW the rifle is a 45 in 22 LR with a perfect bore.  I hope it warms up here someday so I can shoot it.

I have a couple of Stevens scopes, but do not own a 161 scope. I believe that what you are describing will adjust focus. Hopefully someone will reply that owns a 161.

I have a 161. Paralax.

If you bring the scope into focus, you have theoretically eliminated paralax, and vice versa. Bringing the reticle into focus is a separate function.
