Not that I am aware of. He’s still the President of the American Custom Gunmakers Guild. He was at the DSC show in Dallas earlier this year.

Yes, as of Jan 1,2022. He is finishing up a very extensive backlog and was not taking on any new work.

Steve is one of the rare gunmakers that is equally talented with metal and wood. His work is exceptional. He has "corrected" a few guns for me over the years as well as one complete custom build.

I know he is looking forward to building a few guns for himself. I'm excited to see his work when he is done.

Besides being a premier gunmaker, Steve is a very nice fellow.  Always approachable and never a "crank".  He's performed several repairs and modifications for me all to great satisfaction.
Being less than an hour away, and a great go-to guy for help, I'm very cheesed he's retired, but very glad for him at the same time.  Cry

Steve has done a rifle for me and repair work. He's working on a Ballard .22 now. He's a premier gunsmith and a fine gentleman. Sad, for me, that he's retiring, but he'll be happy.

I was going to have him do some work for me, but put it off because of the pandemic.  Now it's too late.  So I wish him well, but also feel sorry for all of us who will now have to find someone else who is as good a 'smith and as fine a man.

Amen and he wasn't second to anyone in my book.
Also holds true for Glenn Flewless and probably spelled wrong.

It has been an honor and a pleasure working with everyone. I kinda hate to retire. (not really) But the backlog of ME projects just keeps getting longer.
I'm still working at Johnson's every day trying to finish up my work there. At last count I think I have about 20 more full builds to do. Thats metalwork and a stock for each.

Have a great retirement, and thank you for the excellent work you've done.  The 1885 Winchester you built for me, patterned after my original Special Single Shot is the finest rifle I own.  Sometimes I take it out of the safe just too look at 😊
