The Reputation on Hi Lux has been that the scopes and glass are good. But the mounts are crap. That makes them kind of expensive if have to buy the scope and then go to Steve Earl for decent mounts.

I had what they now call "Malcolm 6X Long Rifle Telescope."  I think 40 Rod's assessment is accurate, although I think he was kind about the mounts.  I also bought what they called a "precision mount."  Grin Grin Grin

Sent it back.  Worse than crap... it was Chinese junk, rough/sharp edges, imprecise-non-aligning markings, threads cut 60tpi. Cheesy

I read elsewhere that the scopes are made in China, Japanese lenses, and some final assembly here. True? If so, I'll continue to seek out vintage Unertl's and the like rather than wittingly support Chinese industry.

What ever happened to the guy that was making the RHO scopes. As I recall he was just going to temporarily suspend production...

I had two of them at one point I purchased from C. Sharps. Unfortunately I let them get away on a couple of rifles I sold

If your rifle is not in 7.62 and you can't hit what you are aiming at with de-linked machinegun ammo you are a pretender.

I'd expect a member with over 10,000 posts to have something worth while to contribute once a decade or so...

That said, my scope came this morning.  The only thing, it came with bases; but they are for a round barrel.  They did slide right on my DST Borchardt sporter.  Off to the range Monday morning.

I have abit over 10,000 posts but at some point in life folks needs to figure it out on their own and not having to rely on somebody else. Everything I have shared since 2004 including the HiLux Mounts can still be easily found if one is willing to do a simple search.

Those bases work fine on an octagon barrel. They're what I use on my barrels, octagon or round.

I'm not a complete idiot, some of my parts are missing.

I do the same, and find that sometimes those that are flat don't fit(tend to rock)on the octagon flat, especially on older rifles. If there is a sharp edge on the concave base, a light pass on fine paper on a nice flat surface(glass works well) will keep from marring the finish of the barrel.

I don't know how  many folks lurk on the many auction sites available, but I have recently seen a half dozen Unertls on several sites. Baer, B. Langston, Kramer, Montrose, Pacific, Poinsett, R2BA, Younger, Joe Pyle, Bullock are all reputable auctions. They are mostly under Proxibid. Once you bid in a couple of the above you'll start getting notifications from others. Unertls with mounts are currently going for $500-$700. You see some bargains- I am currently bidding on 100 new nickel 45-70 cases for $40. Auctions are a little addictive, though.

Our club president was at the range yesterday with the gen 2 Hi-lux 8x .
It was quite a bit nicer finished  than the earlier one I handled.Optics seemed as clear as the 20x STS I was shooting.i just wouldn't pay $700 for a Chinese knock off when you can find originals for the same price or just a bit more.

yeah maybe, but the warranty on Untertls/Targetspots is about as good as Joe Bidens credibility ratings...

I suppose it's nice to have a "warranty" when experience with the company's other products strongly suggests it may be needed sooner rather than later.

Well put, they need to have a good warranty because their products need it.
