Does anyone here know where Steve Meacham who built those fine High Wall replicas is these days?  He was from Peck, Idaho.
I am buying one of his rifles, and would like to talk to him.

thanks,

Rich

Hey Richard
Steve retired a few years back. To the best of my knowledge, his website is no longer active and he no longer sells rifles or loading gear.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

Rich, I purchased a Meacham Hiwall in a local gun shop. It was there for sale. I looked it over and was impressed so I posted it at the Club I shoot at. Well six weeks later it had not moved and when I mentioned that to the shop owner he said to me "If you like why don't you Buy it" The asking price was $2000.00 and when I said that was a little stiff for an unkown at that time Maker. He replied "I will sell it to you for $1200.00 Cash" Well that was a little different but as it was late Saturday I told him I could not make that happen until Monday. He said he would hold it for me so first thing Monday I was at my Bank for the cash. I took it home and disassembled it to see how well it was made. Looked to be a very good reproduction of an original M1885. Only change of significance was 1/4x20
Tapped hole it the face of the receiver which I took to be an effort to free float the Forend. Came with close to 100 rounds of .40 70 SS. I have never fired it.
The Serial # is 52, I did  contact Meacham at the time with questions and all he could tell me was "You got an early one" Some day I will be bored and take it to the club and shoot it. I already own a Mid Range Sharps in the same caliber and it has been a great shooter at 200 Yds with a 380 Gr stop ring bullet and 15 grs 4759. Fun to shoot. Shot it once with full Black Powder load and did not use up all the Ammo. Talk about recoil. Well nuff now, Regards FITZ. OLD TUCK Smiley

I first met Steve more than 30 years ago.  He used to drive down from Peck (near Lewiston, ID) and we would go to the SHOT Show together.
I would like to know how he is getting along these days.

Fitz you should really take that Meacham out and shoot it Smiley.  My Meacham rifles are the only ( other than custom built ) black powder target rifles that are comparable in quality and accuracy to my Shilohs.   I remember reading about why the tapped holes are in the front of the Meacham 1885 receivers.  I don't think it was for floating the forearm, but I could be wrong.  I read about it here once.

Chris.

I have a Meachum Hoch action . I got this action through a series ofcomplicated gun trades and recieved it in a unfinished in the white state. I finished the action chambered it in 30/30 Win. it is being used with cast bullets, an styled as  offhand rifle used in our local gong shoots .
The action made up into a very good unit . Bottom line Mr. Meachum put out  very good work I would expect the Hi-wall to be every bit as good as the Hoch action
