Next installed the tang sight, raised it to same height center of the arpeture - center of the Unterl Occular lens.
Trial does not have to mean error.
Final chapter this story, we had great offhand Schuetzen matches close to home. Now little offhand competition for the rifle within 1000 miles, took it apart last year sold the Pope stock Palm rest and all.

Thanks for the tip on matching sight and ocular height. I had started there, but the scope mounted was a 1” tube Unertl. With the short staff on the tang sight, it maxed out to the top and was still low in comparison.
I set the tang sight where it was comfortable to look through, installed a 3/4” tube scope and it lines up very close to centered
Shot a group tonight after work with the old scope as a reference point of impact. Then shot a group with the irons.
If I can trust my known dope and the calculators, I have a number. Calculations tell me I need to come down .208” on the vernier scale, to match the impact points of scope and sight. I had cranked it up .200”. Close enough for a start I think.
Boats, finally getting that mounted. I think it’s been more than a year.
