strange re-bore?

A friend has asked me to post this information about a HiWall he has acquired --  It is chambered for 32-20 and so marked.

The serial # is 11660, and looks all "factory" except that the bore diameter is over-size.   On the bottom of the barrel it bears extra stampings, "60928". "Order No", and "JPP"

The groove diameter is 0.326", and is rifled with 8 grooves, leaving very narrow lands.  Has anyone encountered something like this?   Speculations?

Is there any possibility that the rifle was bored for the European trade so as to use "8mm bullets"??

You might make a chamber cast, 'cause it could be a 32 Ideal, but that's just a guess.

The “J. P. P.” stamp you found under the forearm stands for James P. Parker, Winchester’s barrel specialist in the late-19th through early-20th centuries - i.e., Winchester’s "answer" to Stevens’s Fred Ross.

I have a Maynard 32-20, 16 twist that measures .318. Oddballs are out there.

BILL:
Thanks a bunch!  Just the sort of information we were looking for.  Now it remains to discover some means of making it shoot.   Lots of options occur to me.

Do a chamber cast and see if it isn't. 32 Ideal, the bore is the right size for that cartridge.
