Who was David C Squier?

I don't need a re hash of his obituary that says he was "An avid car, boat and antiques enthusiast ...."   But, along with his late wife,   Lore,  they  amassed a Huge  collection of Remington single shots.  Amoskeag has included rifles from the collection  for the past few sales.  Many of them are in   Mr.  Marcot's and Mr Rowe's books .  Just Curious.

David was a long time collector/dealer. He and a partner ran Heritage Arms I think in the '70s and '80s. I photographed his collection. He was a real student of NY State arms, mostly Remingtons and percussion target arms made new him. These were mostly Morgan James, George Ferriss and Nelson Lewis arms but a lot more makers were represented. He also collected ammunition and accessories such as shooting medals etc. Samurai swords were also an interest and he was very knowledgeable in that field. His wife was German and imported some German Shepards that were a lot better than that breed seen in this country. David's father was a very successful attorney in Bullalo, NY. One of his clients was the Burgess Gun Co. and David had some of them in his collection. They were great hosts and it was a learning experience every time I talked to him.  I could go on and on.

A bit more—David was a go-to guy when I was working on the NYS Firearms Trade books. I accompanied Roy Marcot to Dave's house and we photographed a lot of Rolling Blocks for the book Roy was working on at the time. He had a fantastic collection and a wealth of knowledge. On Remingtons he liked rolling blocks and not Hepburns. I think he had only two Hepburns. Late in his collecting days he became interested in Long Range rifles both American and British and had some wonderful examples. Most of his collection was auctioned by Amoskeag and I had to go to the well again.

I spent several days helping his son appraise the collection - it was nothing short of incredible. David even had guns belonging to Napolean.

He spent a lot of years as a dealer when stuff was coming out and it was the glory days of Flayderman, Kelly, Pete Harvey, Paul Weisburg and a lot of the other North East dealers. Paul and Dave were good friends. Dave had enough financial backing to also be a discriminating collector. Did you see the gold medal presented by the Irish from Wash. D.C.?
