Sevens 44 action question Hammer

I have 5 model 44 rifles some of them 6 o'clock some of them 7 o'clock extractors. some of them cock the hammer on the action opening some do not.
What's the deal?

The model 44's with 7 o'clock extractors
would be made before 1901.
Depending on the sights for more specifics
I have a 44 with role marks pat. 1889
w/7 o'clock extractor.
