CF MATCHES AT 100 YARDS ?

Worth considering?
I, for one, am turning away from ASSRA and competitive shooting due to the inability to see point of impact at 200 yards.  Old eyes and advancing glaucoma have crippled my ability to continue the sport I love.
If sanctioned matches were held at 100 yards, I expect that I and many others would find their "shooting years" extended.
Just a thought ..............

Cast bullet association has some 100 yard only matches and a plainbase class.

Another possibility is rule change to allow electronic target camera systems. I just saw New Braunfels Tx showed they have some kind of system now. Just a thought.

I am aware of no reason why any Schuetzen match could not hold one or more 100 centerfire events. They ran an entire three day Schuetzenfest at Aurora Ill  at 100 yds for many years.

I don’t know if this would help you or not. Or if there might be some rule against it in some competitions. It’s called a “phoneskope”.

I have one that I a man still getting used to. So can not say how well it might work.

It is an adapter to mount a smart phone to your spotting or rifle scope that will project the image onto the screen of the phone. The hope was to be able to easily see the smaller bullet holes, or check the target seated without having to actually look through the spotting scope.

It seems like it will work. The problems have been the only time I have tried it at 200 yards was on a new rifle that I was developing a load and trying to get on target.

To see 22 or 25 caliber holes I needed to zoom in on the target with the camera and there is a bit of a learning curve. The more stable the tripod or scope mount, the easier it will be.

With more time, I’m sure that results would improve.

A larger screen might also be helpful, mine is about 4” wide.

Cost is about $75-100.

I have seen photos and video by people that know how to use them, and know a couple of people that use the mounted phone as the sight. So I know my problems were mostly user error.

I have a Longshot Target Camera that will broadcast a live photo of the target onto a smartphone or tablet.  Might be a bit of overkill, but it does the job nicely.
I'm trying to remember if the use of these devices was subject of a past thread where, if I recall correctly, they were considered an "illegal" electronic aid.
In response to the OP's original question, I believe the Sport needs to do what ever it can to prolong the participation of aging members (of which I am one of them).  100 yd. matches with appropriately sized targets should be one consideration.  Maybe start a Senior Class for those with senior challenges?
I've shot "irons" my whole life, but now find, even with corrective lenses, the task of seeing clearly past my nose is becoming a definite challenge Undecided
Mike.

CBA is a good alternative choice if there are matches being held in your area Ray. The plainbase class is actually extremely fun to shoot as well as being extremely challenging due to the reduced time limits.
ASSRA does have the 100 yard center fire targets availablet. One would think it would not being an issue to be competing at a 100yds. while others are competing at 200yds.
We do have that option in our own Schuetzen group.

I understand your frustration. Have you thought about upgrading your optics? That could be your answer instead of quitting.
