That's an awful lot of gun for an original Low Wall. I wouldn't care to trust it.

I wouldn't care to "thrust" it either.

Maybe if it goes cheap enough, buy it and pull the 45-70 barrel and switch out to a more desirable & safe caliber barrel. Resell the old barrel. It does have very nice wood and most likely has been refinished. At 880 with four days to go it most likely will be to much to have in it to be feasible, but it would get an unsafe rifle off the market.

The part that floors me is that it is a big name seller
and they are calling it a Highwall.
They should know better.

There was a Lowall here about ten yeras ago. It showed up being  32-40. Lot of warnings as it had already started to show Cracks in the Receiver behind the Breach Block. They kept shooting it until it actually broke there. Did not blow up with personal injury just plain fell apart. The owner gave the broken receiver to a freind. He had it welded back together and wanted to know if he could rebarrel it as a 32-40 again. All kinds of noise about that. So the last comment was he was going to rebarrel it as a .22 LR. Never heard of it again. This one appears to be a Winder Musket model with those filled Holes for a side mounted sight. In general these had the least Heat Treat of the Model 1885s. I am unsure of "Blow Up" issues as they usually just kind of "Give UP"and become Two pieces. But I would not ever even consider shooting it myself. 45-70 has a lot of surface area on the base for the pressure to work on. HTH FITZ. OLD TUCK Angry

Fitz is right.  It's a rebarreled Winder Musket.  They made nice .22 rimfires.
