Numrich Rolling Block question(s)
Feb 3rd, 2022 at 12:54pm
Print Post
I ran across a listing for a .45-70 Rolling Block that says it was assembled from a Numrich "kit" on an original RRB action.

I tried searching the forum but didn't really find anything other than references to buying parts.  Were these assembled by Numrich or were they actually sold as unassembled kits?  Did it include the receiver or was that left to the buyer to source?

I'm kind of looking for a project but I'm not looking to take on someone's Bubba hack job... Huh

Thanks!

Numrich sold barrels and stocks at on time for the old Remington rollers. I rebarreled an old 43 Spanish rifle with one of their 45-70 barrels. They also sold the Navy Arms imported Italian replicas. You probably are looking at a reworked original Remington.

Some people say the Numrich "Buffalo Hunter" kits are hit and miss, but I have personal experience with two that were good shooters. One belonged to a buddy of mine's dad, and one that I owned.
Mine shot so good with 405's and 70gr of Dupont 2F I had it D&T'd for scope blocks. It would put 5 in one big ragged hole at 100. I had another one, but the action was messed up so I sold it for parts.
I have one coming that was the same kit only in 444 Marlin

Back in the 70's you could get a roller action fitted with a barrel and chambered in 45-70 from Numrich. You could either buy their wood or fit your own.

I bought (2) of these barrels back in the early 80’s. One of them was 3/16” off center on one end. It was almost humorous.

Thanks for the info.  I’ll keep an eye on it as a possibility to scratch my current .45-70 itch.

It appears to have been built on a 7mm receiver so there’s options if the current barrel is kaput for some reason.

The term “hit or miss” doesn’t begin to describe!  By the late eighties they were down to the bottom of the pile… my kid brother got a bowed barrel (and this was his second try on this project!) so he straightened it the best he could and got it assembled on a late Rem RB action. Shoots OK to 50 or 100 yds, but he can’t really expect too much out of it.

Like SBoomer the one I got was so far off center you just looked at the muzzle and could see how far off center it was.

Thanks, I believe I’ll be passing on this one.  Too many uncertainties to take a flier without being able to check it out in person first.

I bought a RRB 7mm action and a Numrich barrel and stock kit from a guy I worked with in 1970. I paid him $50.00 for it but I had a gunsmith fit the barrel and headspace it. The barrel was full octagon and heavy so I had it turned round from the end of the forestock to the muzzle. I still have it and it is an accurate rifle.

I have one in .45-70 that is a great shooter. Have won quite a few Buffalo matches with it back when the club I use to shoot at had matches.
