There are two White Elephant Ballards know. They have identical engraving. In a description of Zetters rifle gallery in Shooting & Fishing one is mentioned. What the original idea was for these rifles is unknown, but they sure are interesting.

Tom,
You have me drooling out of both corners of my mouth, what calibers? Any more details?

That certainly is a beautiful rifle! I can’t even imagine all the gorgeous rifles Tom has seen and photographed over the years! Every time he posts one of these masterpieces I have to bring out one of his coffee table books and look at them again. Never get tired of it!

A really fine rifle, and the Elephant engraving appears to be an Indian Elephant if that might mean something.

The rifle is a .22 RF and has been made up by Zischang with his wood and butt plate. Both sides the same. The one that was the action only has had a Pope barrel fitted to it and is shown in the Hartford books. I photographed in Ron Peterson's collection. Ron had it restored.

Dreams are a product of the mind, very often brought to fruition by the effort involved to amass the necessary capital.

I too have to say, that I am somewhat surprised that the buttstock and forend wood don't appear to match, unlike Zischang's work. It could also be lighting from the photograph? In spite of that, I could probably find room for it!!!

In this case, the access and capability have been achieved, and now the capital comes into play.
