I find this subject to be very interesting. I shoot in a match we call a buffalo shoot. Steel animals out to 200 meters. All shots are off cross sticks. When I try different loads I always shoot off of the sticks. Barrel resting about one inch from the end (muzzle) . Now my question is - anyone shoot for groups using sticks and if so how does that compare to shooting off of the forearm with rest ?

If I'm developing a load, I always shoot off the Bench with front and rear Bags. That way any guess work  is eliminated on how accurate your load / rifle is.

Thanks Dusty. That does make sense now that I think about it. Maybe shoot off bench and bags then go to sticks. Since that is the way I will be shooting in the match.

With BPCR / BPTR rifles I do it differently than most.  I do load development prone off of cross sticks.  If you are shooting 3000 rounds a year you can get enough practice to get quite stable.  I've also done some load development prone and using a rear bag like the F Class shooters do.  That is an extremely stable setup and keeps your technique much closer to match shooting conditions.  Not necessarily best for everyone, but it works very well for me.
