Two traditional .20 cal. S.S. Varmint rifles
Both of these are chambered for “Wildcat” cartridges. The M85 Win. .20 is based on the .357 max. Case necked down to .20 cal. With a 30° shoulder. ( .20 Tagger). The Stevs. 44 1/2 is chambered
for a .20 based on the RWS 5.6x50R mag. Necked down to .20 cal.
(.20 Teuton) The barrels on both are relined w/liners from turned
Down Rem. 700 bbls. w/ 1:12” twists. Both are shot w/ 32 grn. Sierra Blitzking bullets @ 3900+ fps. The host barrel on the Win. is a “pull off” fluted bbl. from a German Schuetzen & scoped w/ a Zeiss fixed 10x while the Stevs. has a Leopold 10x w/a double dot reticle & while the Win. shoots very acceptably the Stevs. just may be the most accurate rifle I ever built as evidenced by the target shown here. To anyone doubting the accuracy of reclined barrels,
this was shot as a “Zero check” this past Oct. (My main quarry being coyotes these days) I shot a 5 shot group @ 100 yds. that measured .160 w/ this Stevs. 44 1/2 off sandbags, a 10x scope, no wind flags, shot right handed by an 80 year old left-hander, so not to shabby!
