Stock, triggers and lever by Jos. Singer of Los Angles. Active around 1900. Most of his rifles are on Hi-walls His work is rare. This rifle has a Win. .38-55 barrel

That’s a really neat high wall. I’ve read of Singer’s work, did he sign his work or how to identify one of his? Singer was credited for the lever, although it’s commonly known as the Pope lever.

Very graceful lines on the butt stock and nice execution.

Off the topic, I see you live in E. Tenn. I am up Rt 81 45 miles near Marion VA. Are you a collector or shooter? Go to Etna Green?

I live south of Greeneville TN in the foothills. I’m a shooter and have not shot at Etna Green.

Probably about an hour's drive, or a bit more. You must be close to that bad influence Ron Snover. If you get up this way give me a call. Exit 45 on I-81. Tom

After seeing your Singer/Pope Hi-wall I thought I should review your book Hartford Popes. On page 280 is a great summary of the Singer rifle and its characteristics. Always refer to your books and Dutchers book to refresh my memory. My memory certainly needs a lot of refreshing these days!

Wow! Outstanding! What's on the other side? Any chance of seeing the rest of the wood?

I don't recall ever seeing the entire rifle, just that one picture.  Sad
