The .32-35 I found is a Stevens 107.  The buttstock and forend are replacements (the former from another Ideal rifle), and the lever curlicue was modified, but the barrel and action are original.

I thought I was in fat city, since I had an Ideal tool for the caliber.  The mould on the end was a short version of Ideal 31114.  Cut-down .32-40 or cut and formed .30-30 cases fitted fine.  Unfortunately, the loads I made up wouldn’t shoot worth sour apples.

Pushing a bullet into the leade and holding the muzzle to the light showed daylight all around the rifling grooves.  Substituting a 165-gr .32-40 bullet from a Winchester mould that cast 0.319” diameter gave loads that shot as well as the .32-40s I have.

Anyway, that’s just one rifle, but it is an original Stevens barrel.  Haven’t tried anything fatter, or slugged the bore, for that matter; just read the target results.

I appreciate the info! Since buying a New Model Range Rifle (#9 tip-up) in this chambering a couple years ago, I have been intrigued with the 32/35. After receiving the rifle and doing a chamber cast, I was horrified and very disappointed that someone had, in the distant past, chambered it for a 32/40! To make it even more painful, the rifling proved to be a RH gain twist starting around 30 and finishing around 15”! NOT a barrel to alter! Whoever did it had no choice but to breechseat, which is what I have been doing. There is a SUPPOSED, 32/35 barrel right now on eBay that I have been watching since it first appeared. It’s gonna be another big gamble because of the modern caliber stamp, or rather pantograph engraving. My only hope is it was originally a 32/35 chambering and not some bubba’d masterpiece. If I end up with it and like what I see, I will fit it to my 44 1/2.

The bore in the #9 above is .308” and groove is .315”. Twist is 1:18” which, I suppose could have been a 32 Ideal originally.

I have a Maynard in 32-35 Stevens, bore size is .318.  Need to find dies/brass/ mold for it now.

For what you paid. It’s well worth the gamble. I hope it’s a nice barrel. I really wanted it but hit some financial skids just prior to auction ending. Did you get the dies that were listed too? With mold suppliers like Accurate, it really doesn’t matter what the chamber or groove ends up being. I was going to eliminate the ring/shim, re-time the barrel, then just cut a rim recess on the lathe. Keep us posted on results! Too many wishes and not enough $$

I received the eBay barrel yesterday, .311 groove and .303 bore with a 1 in 14” twist is what I measured. A nice shiny excellent bore. A .32-40 empty case will not chamber all of the way, with about 3/8” left sticking out. I have not done a chamber cast, but I am pretty sure it’s a .32-35. No sign of a liner that I can see. I think it is most likely a rebore from a .22 or .25 cal. It most likely started out as a 30” barrel, I believe that the barrel was shortened to remove the front sight dovetail, and is drilled and tapped for scope blocks, and for a front sight  using a block. No factory rear sight dovetail. Appears to be rust re-blued, and nicely done. I have not tried to see if it will index and headspace correctly on any of my 44 1/2’s, but I have my fingers crossed. Very pleased with the purchase, even if it needs fitting.
