Hairtrigger #8 Remington-Hepburn “Stalking Rifle”

Here’s one I built in caliber .257 Roberts rimmed in 1969. The bbl. is a Shilen a :12” twist, 26” full oct. w/integral 1/4 rib courtesy of Emil Facuna.
Originally I made the cases from .444 Marlin. Today I would just start w/RWS 6.5 x 57R or 7 x 57R for fewer steps. I obtained the best accuracy with a 100 grn. Sierra Spitzer over 40 grn. of #4064. The first 5 shot group at 200 yds. grouped just under 1”! I never did much experimenting after that. The rifle wt. is 9 lbs-2 oz.
This scope is of interest. It’s a Leupold fixed 10x with a custom reticle, 3-1/2” dots spaced vertically on 4” centers.
This reticle led to my most memorable  “brag shot” on a badger in South Dakota around 1975. The rest of that story will require my phone number 815-258-2270 should anyone care to hear it.
My original plan for this rifle was to bag a pronghorn antelope and perhaps a good mule deer. Neither ever happened but I still think this rifle would have been up to the task.
