Sorry, fat fingers and really poor typing skills. Yes, that sounds like a great match to me and not too far. You don't have to worry because I shoot about the same as I type. I will PM for the details. Thanks, ratseye

It's a real shame Cody Ballard could not perpetuate itself.

So, Art............. should we expect to see you back at the matches this year? All new target carriers and only takes a finger to get them up and down. And, no greased poles to get filthy against. Its been too long since you've been here..

RE: serial numbers and number of rifle made. I have 2 Cody-Ballards that I ordered.

Number 5 Pacific #C187 45-70. (Barrel engraved “Natty Bumppo, My Rifle Ray’d. Cha’s. Newman”. Gold star for anyone who knows who Natty Bumppo is without using a search engine.)

Ballard #7 Long Range #C392. 40-65 Win. A safe queen and unfired. Shortly after it arrived, I lost interest and never got back into the .40-65. Probably should sell it.

The Leatherstocking Tales. I read them all a number of years ago.

Yes, it IS a real shame that Ballard/Cody did not make it.

Looking around, all we really have left is CPA, or a full custom.  I hope Gail lives to be a hundred.  I have one ordered from her, and would not mind having another strictly for benchrest.

George Dillman told me that the were going to make a run of HW this summer, using MVA actions.  But, MVA says six months to a year delivery time.

As Tiny Tim said, "God Bless us, everyone...".

I've got three Ballards from Cody.  My first was actually a switch barrel 32-40/38-50 Rem. Hep.   I love it but rounds wont chamber in the 38-50 barrel.  They stick out quite a bit so I don't believe its ever been shot.  I was planning on bringing it to Wyoming Armory this summer to figure it out.

Second is a Ballard Rifle & Cartridge Co. Ballard Pacific in 45-110.  Very nice rifle.

Third I just got on Sunday, a 40-65 that I bought from my cousin who was the original owner.  Its an unbelievably beautiful rifle that shoots like a house afire.  Its a true work of art.

Have you tried chambering an empty case? May be that your blown out 30-50 Gov't cases are too long. Unless you've got an unusually long chamber the 30-40 case needs to be blown out, annealed and trimmed to fit a 38-50 chamber. The other is the diameter of your bullet may be larger than 0.376 - 0.377 and simply won't chamber. Easy fix is to run them thru a lubrisizer die.

Empty cases still stick out about 1/4", maybe a hair more.  I've full length sized a case and it still won't drop in.
