	Win. M85 Schuetzen, cal. 40-50 SS This may be the only “side paneled” HiWall extant! This project started when I found an original Win. #4 wt. 30” part oct. bbl. in sorry condition w/a sewer pipe bore. I cleaned up the ext. and sent it up to Alan Siegrist. He then rebored and rifled it to a .40 cal. w/.405 groove diam. x 1:18” twist and it came out great. I then tore down an old HiWall varmint rifle for the action and assembled this rifle. I chambered it for the .40-50 S.S. intending it for a fixed cartridge offhand rifle. Using a 250 grn. light loaded cast bullet. It all worked out fine, shoots great, as long as I quit after 20 or 30 shots!

	On the one hand, I think a side-paneled hi-wall (and maybe a low-wall?) is a striking modification . On the other, that the panel in this example does not follow the lines of the action more closely is a bit off to my (mis)conception of aesthetics. Bill Lawrence

	Beautiful build! Really nice lines on the stock too. I started playing with the .40-50SS a few years ago when I bought a Rolling Block Sporting rifle chambered for this caliber. I think the .40-50SS is a wonderful smokeless powder cartridge, and one of the cheapest and easiest old cases to make. I eventually built up another using a spare receiver I had, and fitted it with a new full octagon barrel, and Long Range Creedmoor style stocks.

	dennis, beautiful.i am building a lowall out of one of rodney stories castings of a hiwall.i have cut it down to a lowall put on a pistol grip dst lower tang with a pope lever.installed a rws left hand twist barrel in 22. i just got it to fire and was looking at laudensack style buttstock. now you have throwed a whole new monkey wrench into the works. thanks tony <><

	I would agree with Mr. tip up that it would be nice if the inlay followed the lines of the action more closely. I will also state that this is not an easy objective to achieve. Good work, Lee Gibbs Pres.ASSRA

	What Lee said, plus one! I have an original HW that is pitted where the flat flares out at front and rear. This could be the answer for it. Rich
