Gibbs .303 Farquharson

Always my favorite single shot actions, I had been looking for a decent .303 for sometime. This one will do until I get the action I am building into a rifle done. Restored in the UK, I will have some clean up to do on the outside of the barrel as it once upon a time wore a scope. Should be a fun one. You hardly ever see a cased Gibbs sporter.

My most sincere felicitations on your acquisition. Beautiful colours and a very (looks like) nice barrel.  The .303 when properly loaded to spec is as good as a 30.06 any day. I hope you get years of enjoyment from a brilliant rifle

Always loved the Farquharson action. A Robert Hughes & Sons (English) Farquharson was my second single-shot rifle.

I always found it funnny that the English have little problem with refinishing a rifle while many (not all) American collectors think it's a sin.

Great cased rifle !

Love the Gibbs, and I love that it has that case as much as the gun! What a wonderful combo!

Actually, I could live with those very nicely plugged scope block holes.

that's a gorgeous rifle. I'd leave the holes in the barrel- some day you, or another owner may get old and need that scope back on there. I'd never have noticed 'em if you hadn't mentioned them.

Great rifle and I saw your post of it on facebook earlier, still admiring it! The Farquharson is still on my bucket list! I agree with Joe Do when he stated the English have no problem with refurbishing, many rifles are regularly sent back to H&H or Purdey to be restored. I have a little H&H rook rifle that was refurbished by H&H before I got it.
Your Gibbs farquaharson is outstanding!

Yes, it's very routine in England to restore or bring a fine gun back to 100% condition. Unlike us, they consider this normal maintenance, and it's not looked down upon like some do with restorations here.

It’s a long cry from sending a 80 yo Purdey back to Purdey for reconditioning than it is for sending a 80 yo Winchester back to Winchester for reconditioning.
Just sayin’
Beautiful rifle

Really nice-looking rifle, thanks for showing us the pictures. I love those old British single shots, they are beautifully crafted guns.

The Gibbs arrived and I do not believe the case is original to the rifle.

On the bright side, the rifle was built in a small action and weighs only 6lbs. A nice bonus.

Very nice! 6lb. Bonus, that would be a real pleasure to carry. Let us know how it shoots and with what. Thanks for sharing.

Also, If you want please share how your build is going.
