no imports?

I am not in the market for more guns, but I have noticed that Buffalo Arms, Cimmaron and Taylor have almost NO imported rifles in stock right now. I assume this is COVID related due to substantial lockdowns in Italy, but I really have no idea why no one has Italian made rifles now. Anybody know?

Well, Italy was one of the hardest hit countries by Covid.

And when The Donald opened the gun shops in 2020 seven million people went shopping and bought whatever they could get their hands on.

I wonder what some of those folks who chose to buy a cap and ball revolver are going to do with them when they go looking for ammo Smiley

Could be there will be a lot more of them on GunBroker...

I dont see  demand for cap and ball revolvers or High walls increasing in the future, but its not a good thing that the imports are not available. Hopefully, this will change. Say what you want about imports vs Buy American, but the imports have played a major role in the re-birth of Schuetzen, muzzleloading and cowboy action shooting. When "our generation" dies out, it wont make any difference, but for now I think its regrettable.

We need to make an effort to get more young people involved in the sport. Hard to do when there are no moderately priced options available.

Here is one for you, this is the first year Montana has offered a traditional black powder muzzle loader hunting season. Now you can imagine the grief for new comers to the game as they try to get "tooled" up at the local gun shop.
No local selection of import gun choices, no easily accessible powder sales, balls/mold, and percussion caps or flints all require mail order.  All that hassle is too much for newbies in general. And then the state offers the hunt in mid Dec. which generally requires some real winter clothes, more start up costs.

Joe_S,

I hope the demand for cap and ball revolvers goes way up Smiley

I have a very nice Belgian-made Centaure a Colt 1860 Army version made as a Centennial 1960 Army.

This pistol has quite the following, mostly in Europe I guess where they say it is not a clone since Colt granted the rights to make their 1860 Army to the Belgian company in the 1800 and never rescinded it.

I was told by an expert on the Muzzleloaders forum not to let it go for less than $400.

Mine has the notch for the buttstock which I was told not on all models have.  I would assume that the buttstock is fairly rare.

Back in the 1960's I desperately wanted one of those Belgian-made 1860 Army revolvers distributed by Centennial Arms Corp. through Chicago's Shore Gallery.  Everyone said they were so-o-o much better than the Navy Arms versions   And folks nowadays say that holds true for the Uberti-Colt "Second Generation" guns as well.

By the way, as I remember, all their pistols had steel backstraps and the notch for the shoulder stock; but the only ones the stock would actually fit also had the extended anchor screws in their frames and the notches cut into their recoil shields.

Smoke,

for cap and ball revolvers; round balls or conicals over BP with a percussion cap is my basic recipe.  No shortage of either here in Idaho.

Stand by… the supply of US produced BP has now become very finite, and like primers, the price on Percussion Caps has gone up, and availability has gotten lower.   Shocked

I guess I’ll just yell “BANG” and throw a rock.  For pistols at least, my scores may improve!  Roll Eyes
