How long, ok
I need 2 blanks for 1871 Mauser,  (single shots of course)
1 Rem. Rolling Block
1 Zulu Martini Henry
1 Winchester 60A, single shot .22

Snowing like a lunatic blizzard here. As soon as I can, I'll hoof it out to
my shop and get some length measurements.

Regarding your bad experience westerner all I can say is:
Caveat Emptor !!!!
Very rude of that fellow to treat you the way he did.

I'm not looking for beauty queen wood. Just nice strait grained correctly dried & seasoned blanks.
After these projects, it's back to metal work....

When you said long I thought long like for mannlichers or bolt guns or muzzleloaders.
Oh, 71 Mauser is long for sure.

John, that I don't remember but it was a lot less than 28 pounds! That I remember clearly because I had to carry the darn thing to the furthest corner of the show's parking lot. I did note the weight each year on the blank but the one that stuck in my mind was the beginning one. It was a Colorado tree, by the way. Here's what it looks like.

The 1871's are bolt guns.
The Win. 60A is a bolt gun .22 single shot

I cut 3 1/2" off a broken manlicher Schnabel stock.
Pinned & glued it on the original 1871 stock, some wing nut chopped
off the original stock.
So now the 1871 pattern stock is at correct length, but has a Schnabel
tip. These two stocks will be done on a paragraph.

When the snow quits flying, I'll trudge on out and see what the lengths are.

I'm guessing about 50 inches minimum.

I will try and check with a Friend.
A fellow in Clements California had 100's of stock blanks and he decided to sell everything.
My friend was one of the first ones there and he picked out all of his best seasoned Walnut blanks for pretty much next to nothing.
He actually gifted me a real nice piece when I built my 28-35 Schuetzen Benchrest rifle.
I sent it to Gail at CPA to have it duplicated to exactly.what I wanted and I did the rest.
Picture does not do any justice to the wood. Action is a FBW's Model J. and the but stock a Winchester special sporting and the forearm a Zischang with an ebony tip.

For comparison purposes, here's a 25 inch barreled (8.15x46R from an Aydt) 71 with a 30 inch stock.

Looks nice.
My 1871 stock is 3 1/2" longer then the bottom rifle.
Perhaps you have a blank that will work.
The 1871 actions I have I'll fit with 45-70 barrels.
30" tubes, so I can have a long sight distance.

Merkava how long of a blank do you need and also the thickness of the blank? Not knowing if you also are wanting to have a cheek rest.
