Transition musket

A few days back there was a discussion on the remington rolling block in 58 cal center fire, using civil war muskets barrels and wood,  a member responded to my inquiry about barrel length.  He responded with his measurement   Which prompted me to check my length, which was shorter than his. I believe he gave his as 36 1/2”. Where mine is 32 1/4. Would this have been a cadet barrel?  But the topic has gone missing,  any ideas where it went?

If you know who responded you can search their previous posts and find it. Or search your own previous posts and it will also be found. Then just post a new reply and that will bring it back to the top again.

The only mention of a Rolling Block I could find in your recent posts was this one:

I think you got your forums mixed up, I've done that too  Wink

A few days ago I posted about my Transformed rifle on the Single shot - rolling & falling block action facebook group. You asked what my barrel's length was was. I replied that it was 39-1/16" from breech to muzzle.

The original transformed muskets built by Remington and Springfield were barreled a fraction over 39 inches.
Subsequently the majority of those had the barrels shortened, making the 39+ barreled version very hard to find. Remington continued to make transformed muskets at irregular intervals. Those rifle typically have barrels in the 32 to 36 inch range.
