Here is my second oldest rifle that I deemed worth keeping and shooting for 51+ years to date.
It is a Engraved No. 6 Ballard Schuetzen in .38/55 with a factory left hand stock and full octagon 30” bbl. It weighs 15 lbs. w/o scope. I purchased it from Frank Sellers at an OGCA gun show for $625 in 1970. Those were the days! It still retains 85 to 90% original finish.
It is an excellent shooter with the Lym. #37586 Zettler - 265 grn. bullet over 15.0 grns. of #4227. While it’s not quite a competitive rest rifle, I have always liked it for offhand. In 1983 at Beeson’s I shot my personal best iron sight offhand target at 200 yards. Back then iron sights on my rifles were functional instead of purely decorative like today. That score was a 216 x 250 w/ 1 c. w/all 10 shots in the 12” black. That target is still on my shop wall. Although it was only good for second place behind Dave Stahl by about 10 points. Consider that in 1983 eagles and antelopes were jealous of my eyesight.
The second photo is the accompanying tools for the No. 6 Ballard.

Beautiful rifle Dennis! ... and equally nice (and scarce) set of reloading tools and accessories.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Stunning! That would make anyone's list of great rifles and accessories!

Gorgeous old rifle and a really heavy barrel! And being a lefty I do like that stock.

Dennis you are truly an Icon to single shots and I personally cannot thank you enough. For sharing your own life time of single shot rifles and your own life time of personal experiences.

That rifle and its accessories would be enough to make me learn to shoot left-handed!

Very nice despite the cheek piece being put on backward. You never cease to display the nicest looking rifles. Thanks, hope to see you at the Dec 12 match. Stay well. Bob
