Great story of a very unusual deer and trip! For such a young buck, he seemed awfully savvy on how to move, and when to move!

I heard that on the radio on the way to a match earler this month.  Just happened to remember the name of the organization so looked it up.  Glad you guys found it interesting.

To bad he went and died.

It's a good thing he died, we don't need deer that smart breeding and proliferating. We would never be able to catch up and kill one of them.

Fascinating link! A couple years ago signaled the end of the 10 year MIPP study here in Michigan’s UP. The acronym denotes Michigan Predator Prey study focusing of whitetail predation/mortality from  winter, wolves, bears, coyotes, bobcats, and even a fisher kill. The last 4 years of the study was the HEAVY snowfall area of the northwestern UP…..literally in my backyard. I helped the “kids” as I called them whenever possible. I learned some really cool things about the deer in my area, especially the migration patterns. A lot of The deer that winter on “my” hill, come from nearly 50 miles away on the south Lake Superior coast. I am still waiting for the study results to be posted.
