Recycling face masks

Went to the range yesterday to try a new to me system Concurrenz German schuetzen rifle. I fired about 25 rounds of stop ring bullets, decided to run a tight fitting dry patch thru the bore to check for leading. Rats, forgot the patches. The only thing I could find in the truck was a used blue paper face mask. I cut it about the right size, put it on a piercing jag and it worked just as good or better than a cloth patch. I am cheap, from now on when I enter a store and a young person says “sir, would you like a face mask” I will say “could I have 2”.

Some paper products can actually be quite abrasive.
I too am also conservative so I picked up a cutting board and now buy cozy flannel from the local fabric store and by the yard when on sale. I can now also make my own patches to a more exacting fit and for next to nothing.

Even though I used it in pinch, I meant the post tongue and cheek. I will continue to use cloth patches.

I was more worried about the secret cleaning ingredient, than the material it was applied with. Shocked

I used to cut up old T shirts, or other soft flannel to use for patches. But I found a seller who sells 2" square patches at around $7 per 1200 shipped to my door. Not sure how they're making any money, but I appreciate the time it's saved me from sitting around cutting up old rags.

Not sure how a 2 inch patch can actually fit everything that one might have?

Sometimes I make patches out of Scott white shop towels. They work excellent.
Can make a nice full bag of patches any size I want on the paper cutter in a jiffy.

Joe I was sitting here and thinking that maybe those Covid Masks would be better served for Toilet Paper in a Pinch.

Looked it up for you, and seems his price is higher now. Still what I think is a bargain, but $13.49 for 1200 now.

Last time the Cozy Flannel came on sale at the Fabric Store. Along with a 40% off online discount it was pretty much next to nothing price wise. Also did the same when I bought my Fabric cutting board. I now probably have pretty close to a lifetime supply. It only takes me a few minutes to cut a years worth of patches that will actually fit right. I also use Parker Hale wrap Jags so the fit might be more critical than if I were using something other type.
