Interesting Bob. They are often pretty roughly finished on those hidden areas that don't bear against the receiver during lockup. Sides are always finished very nicely since they show when the block id lowered. So roughness could original, or as reworked. It's possible it's had a block fitted from another Ballard and numbers removed for that reason.

Thanks Vall.  I’m in the process of trying to get the action up and working with the parts that came with it and would say the frame and block are not matching.
