Wesson 42-85 or 43-85?

Print Post
I cannot find much information on this Wesson cartridge and am looking for anything. The tip-up measures Groove diameter of 0.437 , Case is 0.470" straight and about 2.5" long. I have been using 0.439 Lyman mold. Ten years ago there was a brief line about it but "Merle" has not been on for ten years.

Thank you,
Charles

"As far as I know, the .42-85 wesson is about like a 44-75 ballard everlasting in looks, just slightly smaller in diameter

It's a rimmed straight.

Wild guess in my John Donnellys Cartridge conversion book in my note pages.....

rim diameter roughly .505-.506
little to No taper with OD ranging from .437 to .440.   Inside dia  .415-.416
length 2.5 inches.

Rim thickness might be the same as the .44 Wesson extra long-.061

.44-75 ballard everlasting rim thickness is .072

Just some wild guesses on my part.

Merle"
