Yes that is A Elliot. I met him at Walnut Hill in the 70s. He was in the company of a gentleman named Allen Winsor. Allen had been a Schuetzen enthusiast for so many years I had only just met him when he found Old Colony Sportsmans Association in
Pembroke Mass. I own two Elliot .22 LR Schuetzens, one a Hi Wall and the other a 6 1/2 Ballard. The Ballard is practically new condition. The Hi Wall has survived a House fire when my home burned in 1991. Arthur was at that time living in Fall River Mass. and had a shop. He did almost anything that had to do with Machining
incuding buying and selling older machine tools. He did however still have a Long Bed South Bend lathe that was tooled for Drilling and Reaming and Rifleing barrels. He was a true Gentleman of the old style. Although I often got the impression that his Wife was not charmed when a Shooting enthusiast came to visit. The story of his stamp may be correct, it was very small maybe 1/16" high.
I also have a "T" style 03 Springfield with a stamp on the Barrel that says
"A ELLIOT"
Boston Mass 1930 Not realy sure if that is absolutely correct as it has been a while since I looked it over. The Barrel has been used hard. the bore looks like it has been shot across the course a lot with either Ball or Match ammo.
When I first got it I shot it at 200 Yds with Lake City Match bench. It would not hold the "X" Ring but was all around and held the Ten ring on the 200 Yd repair
center. When he passed his wife did not let us know at the club. and Sold ALL of his shooting material as a batch to Pete Harvey down on the Cape and he Auctioned it all off. The .22 LR rifles I have have been Tack Drivers for me although I have not taken the time to work on the Hi Wall as I was so distraught.
it did not truly burn as I had it tucked away behind a couch. But it did get hot enough to where the Forend had started to reach Gasification temperature. I have shot it once ot twice but and started to make a new forend but just plain ran out of enthusiasm as wood is not one of my preferences. ALL for now. FITZ
OLD TUCK.
