flatlander, now you are going to make me look. Never thought to check.
In my conversations with Arthur he never mentioned, but I am sure he could have made anything he wanted. FITZ, OLD TUCK Smiley

Joe Do...

From your newspaper clipping these two young guys are; Arthur Elliot and Harold Nickerson. The man just below Nickerson is Charles Kelly.

Bob that is out of a picture I have taken at Walnut Hill 1935. The White Hair showing low in front of Arthur Elliot is Pope. I can try to send you the full picture
by PM if I can make it happen. FITZ OLD TUCK Smiley

The man standing directly behind Pope is Lucian Carey, of course.  Can anyone name those who haven't so far been identified?

Tipup, you are most likely right. I screwed up in my last post. The man in the lower right hand corner is P.E Brooks. He came to us from R.I. and was a serious shooter. he formed up local small bore group and trained them into a team that was still hard to beat 25 years after he had passed. I have that same picture taken at
Mass Rifle in 1935. But to us it is Walnut Hill in Wouburn Mass. Rgards, FITZ.

Beautiful Ballards and Winchester's. Makes one wonder what became of them?  It would be nice to have someone put together a time on the Single shot gunsmiths from 1920-@980 or so. There are so many that information is hard to find.Aruhur, Long, Darr, Heinz, Rice, and a boatload more.

SS Jeff, sure would like to hear more about the Brooks rifle. Such as how you came to own it and any of its history you may have.

I bought it about 4 years ago from Gary Quinlan, he bought it from Brooks son George in 1998 and had it in his collection until I bought it. It came with mountains of stuff including letters from Pope as he was building it and test targets Pope shot with it. It came with a lot of letters Brooks received from the famous shooters of the day, he didn’t throw anything away. Anything Brooks saved during his shooting days came with the rifle, targets, programs, photographs it is a unbelievable collection of stuff.

That is super! Quite a history lives on with that rifle and to be the next caregiver for it is a privilege! It would really be fun to see all the famous rifles that have gone through Gary’s hands!

An article about Brooks, his accumulated papers, and his Pope rifle would make an absolutely great journal article.
