You can do it!  Build the 'mold' up around the end, liquefy the pewter and pour it in.

OK, I've not yet done it on a fore-end. So let me add a couple of considerations from my experience.

I cast pewter into aluminum molds.  Firstly, good pewter is 92% tin with either antimony or copper added for strength.  I use 98% tin and 2% copper because I can get it cheap.

Casting into aluminum molds is done with a COLD mold.  Pewter does not cool quickly - easy to open the mold up and pour out the alloy.

You're casting a just above melting point - 400 and some degrees.  It makes shiny bullets if you use a bullet mold.

I’ve done several, so if you want to do it yourself I would help all I can.

I'll be very happy to do it if you supply the pewter.

For cheaters: use Cerrosafe (chamber cast material), poster board or paper for a mold.
Takes a nice polish and wears well. Still looks good on a 40 year old rifle.
Use care, don't let it get away from you as it will penetrate the pores of the wood.
