In my head Im the same age i've always been. Its kind of a shock to be the same age as all you old people. As a suggestion, All of us have a memory of a veteran shooter who took some time with us to get us going. Be that guy, if somebody shows some interest take some time with them you never know when you'll set a spark.

76, Arizona
I’ve been active in the Schuetzen game since 1973 when I acquired my first Schuetzen rifle. It was a Stevens 44 1/2 no.45 with DST. I had it re-barreled to .32-40 by Wm. VanHorne (shot it for years). For me, the traditional Schuetzen rifles were the draw into the Schuetzen style of shooting.
During the 80s and into the 90s, I competed at nearly all the Coors Schuetzenfests, since then I have been very involved with the ISSA matches at Raton, NM. Raton is a lot closer to Az than Etna Green. Additionally, I've been an ASSRA member for years.
Oh yeah, another bit of info. As an artist I've created numerous artworks of Schuetzen subjects plus I wrote and published two books on Schuetzen.
-Loading and Shooting Traditional Schuetzen Rifles - A Beginner’s Guide
-The Golden Age of the American Schuetzenfest - A History and Study of the Marksman’s Art
Check ‘em out, both are informative and good reads.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

i'll be 62 tomorrow, i was sitting on the tailgate of my dad's pickup when he about my age his body racked with diabetes and heart problems.  he told me in his mind he was still 18 and running the hills of tennessee.  i am a now starting to understand what he was talking about as my body is telling me i am not 18 still.  picked up my first single shot over 35 years ago it was a ballard. didn't know what it was but i loved it and had to have it. i did and have been hooked every since. have a happy day.   tony <><

67, W, NC USA I got my first single shot (Ruger#1 30-06) about 1988-87 at the Huston gun show for $250.00!. It was a divorce/ trip purchase.
It has served me well since then with almost 100% one shot kills.
I had been using a LH Rem 788 in 6mm Rem. before that because there was not much available in LH then.
I have since collected several thru 45-70.

78  Fallon, Nevada   Shot and built muzzleloaders for years.  Transitioned to SS cartridge in the early 90s.  Still hunt as I prefer the clean game meat for health reasons.  One cow elk this fall.

67 Spencer, Iowa.  While I know they were around, I never paid attention to antique Single Shot rifle until 15 years ago when a friend of a friend let me shoot his, a low wall 25-20ss.  I was hooked and now own a few.  Started building Longrifles 20 years ago and move into building Single Shots after retiring 5 years ago.

80 years last June. started shooting at 15, had a buddy one year older but he was 6' 4"
and looked 24 so we could buy anything we wanted, he was never asked for an ID.
We started on the low end back then M92 Winchester's were $75.00 and usually could get a box of shells for them. Often we would shoot up the Ammo and then go to a different gun shop and trade it in and get something else. After I came out of the service and really started earning real $ I slipped and fell into Single Shots. Kracked my head and never recovered. My 1st Hiwall was a .222 Rem and I never looked back. Have accumilated an extensive collection that I am proud of.
It will go to my Son and Daughter. No question there, she will sell at Auction and my Son who is a Colledge Professer will sell most but will keep a few that he understands. He has Hunted and shot with me and knows somthing about my finer aquisitions. She is a single Mother and will be able to send her Daughter to colledge. I have no plans to sell myself. I lusted for some of these for more than just a few years. Cannot bring myself to sell them. OLD TUCK Smiley

I've been thinking about retiring when I hit 65.  But then I'm 74 now and still working.  Still love big bore cast bullets - 458WM on down to 22 hornet.

No brag, just fact. I spend most of my time in a motorized chair. Hips and back. I can walk some. Lucky I can back up to within five feet of our covered benches. Lucky I can actually hang my targets out the car window. Lucky I have a bunch of guys that help me at all three of the clubs who have the SS competition.

I have my pride and a bunch of ego but I won't give up my shooting. Unless the good Lord hollers.

58 eastern PA. My dad gave me my first rifle, a Savage single shot .22 for small game when I was 8.

Got into Schuetzen after reading Randy's book, Loading and Shooting Traditional Schuetzen Rifles in 2012. Took my younger son with me to my first match and now he's hooked as well.
