70, in the hot dry foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains in California. The first single shot rifle I used was a Trapdoor Springfield that my father had bought for $3.00. It was quite a nice rifle, I think it was an arsenal rebuild from parts, but was just like new.

. . . but hopefully outshooting some of the chauvinist swine.  Wink

FWIW, 66 here in rural upstate, N. Appalachia, near the center of the once great Empire State (NY). Hey, at least we got rid of our arrogant worm of a governor.  Cool

I own and shoot many single shots, collect Ruger single shots (or used to), but mostly shoot rimfires these days. I think I've owned more guns than socks over the years.

70 and still building rifles in southwestern New Mexico. Looking forward to a whitetail hunt next month, only issue is deciding what single shot to use.

I was (am) really hoping that some young people had chimed in. The future of our sport demands their participation now.

I was late getting immersed in this stuff, but had a keen interest from my teenage years onward. Our local public library had an extensive collection of gun books, including Grant's earlier ones and as I recall a book or two about Pope. Those books were on virtually constant loan to me and ignited a passion that merely simmered as life as an adult with a bunch of hobbies got in the way. I kept my single shots going in the form of my first High Wall 40+ years ago, an R2 Lovell built by Jerry Gebby which marked me as an aesthete among my buddies who were all on the Remington 700 bandwagon for our regular varmint hunting forays. I still have other gun interests, and still have a prime vintage British sports car (the last holdout of a chief reason single shots got sidelined for a long time) - but now I have a lot of catching up to do. I'm peddling as fast as I can!!

63, Retired from the Navy 23 years ago. Still work for the Navy as a civilian.  1860-1890 period guns have been my interest since I was 18.  At this point, I mostly enjoy the challenge of making odd, long obsolete or unobtainable rimfire and centerfire ammunition, and shooting rifles that have sat dormant for decades for lack of ammunition.

I'm almost 77, live in Bloomington, Indiana, and like all single shots, though I prefer tip-ups as a class and Stevens as a maker.  Nowadays I'm exclusively a collector and small-time restorer.  I do not have access to a range, either public or private; moreover, even when there were a few ranges within doable driving distance, I was banned from them because my deafness was understandably considered a "hazard" by the range officers.

It is wonderful to hear from each one of you, but heartbreaking none the less to hear how many of you no longer have access to a place to shoot.
Please read thru the posts. If someone has mentioned that they have no where to shoot, and it would be logistically feasable, invite them to
Shoot. If you have access to a woodlot, and you can get the  less fortunate out for a day In the woods, please do what you can.
Any DAV's in SW Idaho, that would like a place to hunt or shoot, shoot me, (Do I really mean that) a message.
It's a bloody shame what's happening.

It's not a good idea to start a fight with an old man. He can't run and he can't fight any more. But there is one thing he will do. He will shoot you.  " John Steinbeck"

83, hiding behind the Redwood Curtain.  As a young man, I used to hunt.  Went to work as a forester for the US Forest Service in 1970.  That cured me of wanting to hunt and especially of being in the woods during hunting season. Local folks got their livestock close to the house and painted "horse" or "cow" on the sides of each critter.  40 years as a forester, then hydrologist, and the hunters appear to have gotten less responsible each year.  Hunting season is the time to work on maps and reports.  ATVs have not improved things.

I have 2 ranges available & accessible to me, and access to a ranch for very long range target sessions.  One of the ranges is open to the public on weekends.  Don't do my "rangemaster" sessions much. The general public is less than impressive, lacking in any sort of safety-consciousness.

First single shot was a cut-down Springfield-made 1870 Navy roller.  No ammo for such things back in the mid-1950s.  Grandpa converted it to a .410.  Don't have it any more, but there are 20+ single shots on the racks.  Not interested in shooting anything else, except maybe a Krag.  They are so smooth.

70 years old, Calgary, Alberta. A few single shot shooters sprinkled around here. Mostly grey hair though.
Calgary has 3 or 4 indoor (primarily handgun) ranges within city limits. 3or 4 very nice outdoor ranges about 1 hr and 15 minutes drive for me. One I'm a member at has a very nice 500M Silhouette range, a bench rest range and a 600 to 1000 yard full bore range and several handgun ranges. Just wish it were a bit closer.

I'm 76 and all in favor of women- but repeaters, not single shot version! I live in the california colony of Nevada.
For those that don't know, the man in the hat in Joe's trophy girl photo is J.C. Agajanian. Big car owner, promoter and personality in Indy, Sprint and Midget autos. Sport got a lot out of the man and he got a lot out of it.

Celebrated the 32nd anniversary of my 39th birthday this past spring.  Central Iowa, just south of Interstate 80, half way between two places that few folks want to go to...Des Moines and Iowa City. I'm also a political refugee from the Peace Loving Peoples' Socialist Democratic Republic of California.
